Colored pencils are versatile tools that require minimal effort to look good! In this class we explore a few simple techniques and color mixing tricks to add depth and richness to your colored pencil drawings. This intermediate class is designed for student artists who have some experience with colored pencils but want to refine their technique. Week 1Lesson 1Learning to Use Colored PencilsStudents will learn different grips for different techniques, pressures, and styles. We will practice color/value scales, burnishing, and layering color, and how to add dimension with complementary color shading techniques.Lesson 2Refining TechniquesStudents will apply what was learned in the last class in drawings of simple shapes and objects, such as spheres, cubes, cones, and create a "draped fabric" look.
As a licensed art teacher, I have developed techniques for breaking down drawing lessons into simple, easy-to-follow steps. Once we get the basics done, I give my students freedom to complete their project using their own imagination, thereby giving them the opportunity to take what I have taught them to a different, fun and creative level.
Homework Offered
Not required, but students are welcome and encouraged to work on assignments and practice further between class sessions.Assessments Offered
Informal assessments will take place during class in the form of teacher observation and possible suggestions (as requested by students).Grades Offered
Certificates of Completion will be offered upon parent completion of class feedback. Letter or Number grades will be offered per parent request.
Students will need: Paper (quality drawing paper/sketchbook preferred) pencils, eraser, sharpener colored pencils - I highly recommend Prismacolor. This brand is used by professionals like myself and yields the best results. Colorless blender (This is a Prismacolor pencil!) ~optional Black Sharpie (optional)
