Week 1Lesson 1Painting a SunsetWe will discuss the colors commonly found in sunsets. The teacher will demonstrate wet-on-wet painting with watercolor paints, using sunset colors. Students will use what they have learned to create one or more sunset paintings.Lesson 2Galaxy SkyWe will discuss the night sky and how the Milky Way Galaxy can sometimes be seen by the naked eye in very dark locations. The teacher will demonstrate a slightly different wet-on-wet technique for painting a night sky with the nebulous imagery of a galaxy.Lesson 3SilhouettesWe will discuss the properties of a silhouette and practice a few ideas in pencil. Once students have their designs for their silhouettes figured out, we will begin painting the first one on the first painting.Lesson 4Finishing the PaintingsWe will finish the first painting if needed and paint the silhouette on the second painting. If time allows, teacher will also show students a simple technique for dotting the galaxy sky with stars using white paint.
As a licensed art teacher, I have developed techniques for breaking down drawing and painting lessons into simple, easy-to-follow steps. Once we get the basics done, I give my students freedom to complete their project using their own imagination, thereby giving them the opportunity to take what I have taught them to a different, fun and creative level.
