Class Experience

This is an "Art Camp" class which meets four days in a row.  Each day students will create a different beautiful bird picture.  I will lead students through a step by step demonstration of how to make each bird using basic drawing and painting techniques.  Throughout the process students are encouraged to add their own creative touches to their artworks.  As students work, I always make sure to provide feedback, encouragement, and additional instructions as needed.  If time allows our young...

-Students will be able to use basic shapes to draw a picture.  This is a skill they can apply to other drawings as well.
-Students will be able to use introductory watercolor techniques to add color and personality to their artwork.

I have taught elementary art for over 16 years and each of my lessons is developed thoughtfully and practiced ahead of time, keeping in mind student skill level and interests.  I am passionate about helping young artists find their unique artistic voices and therefore balance guided drawing with creative expression in this lesson.  I provide positive encouragement to students throughout our class time and hope they enjoy this project as much as I do.

Students may wish to continue adding finishing touches after class time had ended.

Supplies Needed Each Day:
- 9x12 Thicker white paper suitable for painting (80lb weight or higher; I like Canson (100510941) XL Series Watercolor Pad, 9" x 12", Fold-Over Cover, 30 Sheets)
- Pencil with eraser
- Black permanent Sharpie marker (must be a permanent marker) or black crayon
- Crayons or oil pastels
- Watercolor set (Prang or Crayola recommended)
- Watercolor brush
- Container with water (a container with a wider base or a bowl is less likely to spill)
- Paper towels

**You may also want a piece of poster board or large paper to cover the work area.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

3 hours 20 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
