Description
Class Experience
From brightly colored beetles, to ladybugs, to leaf insects to butterflies--our yards provide a wonderful home to a variety of amazing insects. Class 1: We will explore the world of the ladybird beetle, also known as the ladybug, and draw and color a ladybug. Class 2: We will examine the green jewel beetle's metallic color, learn how they damage foliage, and draw and color one. Class 3: We will discover leaf insects-how their design is used as camouflage, and draw and color a leaf...
In this five-session class, students will learn insect anatomy, understand the role some insects have in the ecosystem, and draw and color those insects
As a licensed art teacher, I have developed techniques for breaking down drawing lessons into simple, easy-to-follow steps. Once we get the basics done, I give my students freedom to complete their project using their own imagination, thereby giving them the opportunity to take what I have taught them to a different, fun and creative level. In this particular class, I draw on my experience teaching kids and adults at the Butterfly Pavilion, the first ADA-accredited stand-alone insect zoo in the US!
Homework might include finishing up artwork that was not finished in class, and possibly image searches of the above insects for inspiration.
Students will need: Paper pencil, eraser, pencil sharpener black sharpie for outlining crayons, colored pencils, markers, etc. (student choice; I will be using colored pencils)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
3 hours 45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
