Class Experience

Students will learn almost everything that goes into starting a career as a freelance artist and if that path seems right for them. They will know common mishaps and mistakes to avoid so they can start off strong.
Students will be able to build a strong portfolio to show off their talents. They will have a basic understanding of how to charge for their work and time.
They will learn how to construct a professional email and how to engage in timely communication with a client.
For the past 2.5 years I have been a working freelance animator & illustrator professionally as my main source of income, but worked part-time for many years before. I have learned from personal mistakes, trial and error, and professional mentorship. I also have a BFA in Animation from the Columbus College of Art & Design.
- Note taking supplies - Questions!
1 hour 20 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
We will be talking about creating social media accounts, emails, and messaging potential strangers online. I will talk about general internet safety and how to vet clients (i.e. making sure they have a real company email, etc) but there is always a risk of scams or false identity. I will note all of the above will need parents permission and possible monitoring. I encourage having your own talk, or class, on internet safety and precautions, since that is not the main focus of this course.
