Art Around the World Learn about artwork from various countries and create some art of your own! In this ongoing class, students will learn about a style of art, an artist, or a group of artists that come from different countries around the world. This will be done largely though a slide show while asking students about what they see. During this portion of the class, each learner is given an opportunity to talk. We will be sure to cover countries from each continent. There are currently 30 different countries that will be covered in this course. Next, we will make artwork of our own inspired by that week's art. Some weeks will be done through directed drawing, but students are encouraged to make any changes they want to their work to make it unique to them. Other weeks, learners will be given a drawing prompt based off of the art work we explored that week. Students will be asked questions about their work as they create to encourage plenty of interaction. In the last 5-10 minutes of class each learner will share their artwork. Some students will need time outside of class to finish their artwork. The following is a week by week breakdown of the country and artist or type of art in upcoming classes: 1/15 Japan wind socks drawing and paper sculpture 1/22 Indonesia batik watercolor painting 1/29 Columbia Fernando Botera drawing 2/5 England Illuminated Manuscripts drawing 2/12 Ecuador Inca textile watercolor painting 2/19 USA American Gothic drawing 2/26 Turkey Islamic calligraphy watercolor painting 3/4 Angola Masks paper collage 3/11 Panama Molas paper collage 3/18 Scotland Tartan drawing 3/25 Cyprus Cypriot Sculptures clay sculpture 4/1 Nepal Mandalas paper collage 4/8 Egypt Stylized Figures drawing 4/15 Brazil Os Gemeos drawing 4/22 India Meenakshi Amman Temple sculpture 4/29 Spain Diego Velasquez drawing 5/6 Thailand Shadow puppets paper sculpture 5/13 Iran Persian Rugs paper collage 5/20 France Rose Window drawing 5/27 Mexico Frida Kahlo drawing

Teacher expertise and credentials
The two things I love most in life is art and teaching! I have a degree in art education and have lots of experience working with young students. I think that basic understanding of art techniques and theories are important things that students should learn to not only further their art skills but also to see the beauty in the world around them!
