Children will be introduced to some great artists ( Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh, Frida Kahlo, Salvador Dali, Michelangelo, and Paul Klee. Mark Rothko to name a few), and have opportunity to create their own masterpieces using inspiration and information gained from these artists. These classes combine art appreciation and art making for the young child that is developmentally appropriate. In the first portion of our classes, we will delve into these artists lives, and look at some of their famous works and have a discussion and share our thoughts. The second part of our class will consist of time allocated for children to create their own works of art, inspired by the work and lives of the famous artists presented. This weekly ongoing course offers a lot of painting exploration, as well as the opportunity to explore sculpture and abstract drawing and collage. Each week we will focus on one great artist mentioned above, and use various art materials, such as acrylics, oil pastels and charcoal pencils, canvases, paper and air-dry clay. Below are the weekly artist featured and the suggested materials needed: Week 1: - Pablo Picasso- Materials Suggested: acrylic paints, water cup & paint brushes, large paper that can fit on table top or a large ,pre-stretched ready canvas that can fit on your table top surface Week 2: - Vincent Van Gogh- Materials Suggested: acrylic paints, water cup & paint brushes, water-color paper Week 3: - Frida Kahlo- Materials Suggested: pre-stretched canvas, acrylic paints, paintbrushes, water-cup Week 4: - Salvador Dali- Materials Suggested: assortment of pencils ( color and charcoal ), paper, erasers, oil pastels Week 5: - Michelangelo- Materials Suggested: air-dry clay, cardboard square or canvas board for work to rest on, tinfoil, wire or pipe-cleaners Week 6: - Paul Klee- Materials Suggested: variety of scraps of colored papers, and/or small pieces of cloth, pre-stretched canvas or paper or even cardboard, oil pastels Week 7: Andy Warhol- Materials Suggested: Paper, colored pencils, water-colors or other paints, paintbrushes, water-cups Week 8: Jean- Michel Basquiat- Materials Suggested: Prepared Canvas- any size, acrylic paints, paintbrushes, water-cups, oil pastels Week 9: Claud Monet- Materials Suggested: Canvas Board or Prepared Canvas- any size, acrylic paints, water-colors, oil pastels, paintbrushes and water-cups Week 10: Georgia O' Keefe- Materials Suggested: Paper, colored pencils, pastels, and/ or water-colors, paintbrushes, water-cups Week 11: Henri Matisse- Materials Suggested: Paper, assorted papers of colors/textures/designs, glue, oil pastels, scissors Week 12: Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec- Materials Suggested: Cardboard or Canvas Board- any size, acrylic paints, and/or pens, paintbrushes, water-cups
Learning Goals
Children will gain an introduction to some of the great artists that have produced work through the ages, which lends to an understanding of art appreciation. Learners will develop their sense of imagination and creativity while exploring weekly art projects and have opportunity to express themselves in a visual context.

I have a Master Degree in Early Childhood/Primary Education and a Bachelor Degree in Child Development, active in the field for several decades. I am also a National Geographic Certified Educator, and certified to teach the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IB PYP). Also, I am TESOL certified, teaching English as a Second Language. I am the Founder of Connecting Children to Art in Nature; educational business that offer children and families services to connect to nature in artful and eco-friendly formats and perspectives. I create educational design and curriculum for youth and families for botanical gardens, children's schools, private and public settings, nature centers, as well as lecture in universities and colleges presenting professional development workshops for educators.
