In this fun course we will discuss the life and work of Jean-Michel Basquiat. Kids will also compete their own work of art in Basquiat's style as we go along.
Class experience
Jean-Michel Basquiat started as a teenage, homeless graffiti writer and went on to become one of the most famous artists of the past 50 years. One of his paintings recently sold for $110,000,000! The class will be a lecture/slide show on his exciting journey to the top of the art world. We will also look at dozens of his paintings and discuss the style, composition, colors and influence. I have a a bachelor's degree and credential to teach high school, a Master of Education degree, and have taught various classes involving the examination of similar topics at the college level. This type of art has been a life long hobby/passion of mine - I have personally attended 6-7 Basquiat exhibits and own a dozen of his books (the first one a Christmas gift when I was 14) and I plan to use the skills I have in teaching and my vast knowledge of the subject matter to create an interesting and engaging class!
Children will be creating a piece of art. The will need paper (the bigger the better) and various colors of markers.
