In this one-time class, learners will be given a choice of prompts such as "What would happen if a dinosaur went grocery shopping?" or "There once was a pink octopus who lived in the ocean." Leaners can choose one prompt from the provided list over which to create a work of visual art or writing. Students may choose to draw a picture of a dinosaur for such a dinosaur prompt as that above or write a story about the experiences of the pink octopus. Learners will be given a chance to share their creations with the class. This type of exercise is good for encouraging creativity and boosting self-esteem. The purpose of this class is to encourage creativity and imagination. I will teach this class by providing a list of prompts via a PowerPoint slide. The students will make their choice and begin creating. Learners can choose to draw, paint, sculpt, craft, or write. The only limit is the artist's or writer's imagination. Students will need to bring their needed supplies to class. I believe students learn best when best when they can enjoy the learning process and use their creativity. Students will learn through creativity and discussion. I will be there to help with ideas if students need that extra support.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to express their creativity through pre-selected prompts.

My name is Kandy Crosby-Hastings. I teach history, classic literature, and writing classes. I have two sons who were homeschooled from preschool through their high school graduation. I also have experience working in the public school system and as an online ESL teacher. I hold bachelor's degrees in education and religion and master's degrees in human services, history, and professional writing - all from Liberty University. I adore student-directed, critical thinking-based, fun learning. I believe students learn more when they enjoy what they are learning and are fully involved in the learning process.
Some fun facts about me are I began my professional writing journey by interviewing country music singers. I self-published my own magazine for a few years, in addition to freelance writing. Now, most of my writing takes the form of historical research. One of my most recent published articles tells the story of Thomas Hutchinson, a Loyalist during the American Revolution. My favorite historical era is the nineteenth century. Some of my research in this area earned first place in a 2018 research symposium.
