Students will create an origami dog and learn about ADVERBS. They will describe their origami dogs in complete sentences using adverbs. Prior knowledge needed: Students must be able to identify a VERB (an action word) in a sentence. The word, ADVERB, will be introduced in this lesson. An ADVERB modifies (describes) the verb in a sentence such as "The dog QUICKLY runs." "Quickly" is an adverb. 1. Introduction: Review the meaning of the word, VERB. Define ADVERB 2. Guided ADVERB...
Students will (1) define an "adverb" and "verb," (2) create an origami dog, (3) and discuss sentences containing adverbs to describe verbs. COMMON CORE ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS (ELA) STANDARDS: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.3.1 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when speaking. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.3.1.A Explain the function of an adverb in general and their functions in particular sentences. I teach communication skills that help youth and adults strengthen relationships, set appropriate boundaries, and resolve conflict. I empower youth with goal-setting strategies and peer leadership coaching. I equip teens and youth leadership teams with skills and tools to create powerful action plans with attainable goals.
