Class experience
Let's get together and mash up art and reading! This class will challenge your students to take a closer look at the art they see in their favorite picture books. Your student will increase their art skills as well as expand their love of reading. How fun is that? In each 50 minute class, we will pair a beloved book with an art lesson using a variety of art mediums. At the end of each class, your student will have their very own masterpiece. Students will expand reading comprehension. Students will further art skills while improving fine motor skills. Students will develop and understanding of book illustration. Students will learn to listen to their artistic voice. Students will strengthen problem solving skills using the design process. Students will engage in a fun art experience.
Ms. Deana is an art and theatre teacher with over 16 years of teaching experience. She is certified to teach both art and theatre and has an extensive background in each. Ms. Deana is also certified to teach AP Art.
White paper (the heavier the better) Colored construction paper, pencil and eraser, black marker (sharpie is preferred), watercolors, paintbrush, water cup, markers, crayons or oil pastels, glue stick, and scissors. I adapt all lessons to whatever the student has so this is merely a recommended supply list. However, they will always need at least paper, pencil and eraser, and color makers.
Students will be asked to use scissors to cut paper. Students will use glue. When these tools are used, we will go over proper use and safety guidelines at the beginning of class.
