In this ongoing class students will draw, paint, and create sculptures while learning to look closely at the world that surrounds them, as well as to explore interesting animals, ecology, and art from around the world.
Class experience
Join Ms Maggie on an art adventure! Each week we will explore a new subject to inspire our artistic creations. We will meet interesting animals, visit unique ecosystems, and experience art from around the world. Sometimes we will explore our island home of Hawai'i. Sometimes we will travel to a far corner of the globe for our inspiration. We will make use of exciting video footage and personal stories whenever possible. Students will grow their drawing, painting, and sculpture skills, especially their ability to observe nature and draw what they see. Students will grow their creative voice and curiosity about the world. Student will learn to give and receive helpful feedback about their artwork from other students.
Maggie Sutrov is a professional artist, arts educator, licensed teacher, and was born and raised on Maui. She pulls from her years painting on Maui and teaching art to Hawaii's youth. Her art projects connect students with the ecology and culture of these unique islands. She adds to this her world travels and creation of artwork wherever she goes.
