In this 3-week class, learners will participate in fun and engaging scavenger hunts as they practice their social skills, meet new friends, use their listening skills, and get moving! Students will use simple clues (ex. "Find a snack you like to eat") to find a variety of objects around their homes. The class will be broken down as follows: 1. Introductions and rules of the game (I will review the rules each week to ensure student safety.) 2. Scavenger hunt and clean-up 3. Final thoughts and goodbyes Each week, we will focus on a different category of clues: Week One: Letters, Shapes, & Colors Week Two: The Five Senses (textures, smells, taste, etc.) Week Three: Mystery Clue Week! This 3-week class is designed to get students moving while having fun interacting with new friends and sharing a little about themselves. I will be encouraging the students to walk quickly and not run so that everyone can stay safe, and I will also include time for everyone to put each item back where it belongs. Even this "boring" chore will be turned into a game! **Please note, I also offer a one-time scavenger hunt class for learners ages 5-7. This one-time class would serve as a great introduction to this multi-day class, and it would also be a great option if your child would like to participate in a fourth scavenger hunt! If you have any questions about this class or would like to request a different time, feel free to contact me and I will be happy to help! I would be thrilled to see your learner in my class!!
Other Details
Parental Guidance
This class involves physical activity and frequent movement; as a result, please ensure that your child remains hydrated throughout the duration of the class, has the proper footwear needed to complete the activity, and has an open space to move about the house. Please know that I will encourage students to avoid running, but because of the virtual nature of this class, I cannot ensure that learners are heeding this rule. As a result, I highly encourage parents to speak with their child before class about this rule and/or monitor the student during class. Thank you for your participation in this area!
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello there! My name is Miss Katelynn, and I LOVE to teach! I have my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and currently teach 3rd grade at a private school. I have experience teaching 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade in the classroom, and also work with 3rd-5th graders on a weekly basis at my church. The elementary ages are my favorite!
One of my biggest goals in teaching is for every student to leave my class feeling encouraged, empowered, and valued. Students will gain important knowledge and skills (and hopefully have a lot of fun!) in my classes, all while feeling welcomed and comfortable.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have or requests for new classes. I look forward to seeing your learner in one of my classes!
