In this 8 week course, the Purpose of the lesson it to give the student a working understanding of the Arkansas Rules of Criminal Procedure and an overview of common criminal law terms and statutes.

The knowledge of criminal law and procedure is a fundamental building block of student's wishing to pursue a career in law enforcement. The Law Enforcement Officer knowing the elements of the law, and how to find the statutes are essential to being able to know when to take action. The Law Enforcement Officer knowing the rules or criminal procedure allow him/her to know how to take the correct action. This class will prepare you of the do's and dont's of law enforcement. Upon successful completion, the student will have gained valuable insight to assist in the advanced progression of their career.

The student will be familiar with various terms commonly used to identify defendants.
The student will know the difference between probable cause and reasonable suspicion.

Criminal Law Introduction
1. Laws for the most part not greatly changed.
2. Punishments for breaking the law have significantly changed.
3. Arkansas Title 5 are the Criminal Offenses
Lesson 2:
Misdemeanors
Exploring the difference between a misdemeanor and a felony.
Lesson 3:
Felonies
Exploring the severity of a felony charge, along with the elements of crime that would constitute a felony.
Lesson 4:
The Fourth Amendment
What is a citizens right to unlawful and lawful search and seizure? What constitutes law enforcement's authority to utilize this amendment.

1. 21 years of experience as a certified law enforcement officer in the State of Arkansas.
2. I currently hold the highest level of law enforcement certification in the State of Arkansas (Senior Certificate).
3. 2013 Graduate of the Arkansas School of Law Enforcement Supervision.
4. Graduate of Arkansas Tech University with Bachelors in Applied Leadership (2019) and Masters of Student Affairs Administration (2022).
5. Certified Field Training Officer
6. Certified Police Instructor.
