Area and Perimeter, the Building Brick Way!
Class experience
US Grade 4 - 5
This is a hands-on, exploratory style Geometry class. It works best when learners have their own building bricks to build along with us, and it is suggested that learners already have a baseline understanding of BOTH perimeter and area. It doesn't have to be cemented and firm, but at least a basic understanding helps learners explore the concepts and how they are related. The class only meets once a week for just under an hour. In week one we discover the formula for finding area of squares...
Students will improve their understanding of area and perimeter. Students will learn the formulas for finding area and perimeter of rectangles and squares. Students will apply their understanding of multiplication and division to develop strategies for constructing structures with specific area and perimeter.
Some building bricks with a base plate are highly recommended, and a notepad or paper and pencil.
