Description

Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
Students will improve their functional academic skills and demonstrate understanding of the questions asked in each academic subject area by participating in discussions with their peers and teacher. Students will acquire new academic vocabulary.
Mrs. Akins is a licensed Special Education and General Education teacher in the state of Florida. She has a Master's Degree in Learning and Technology and a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education.
Homework includes deciding on a trivia question in the assigned subject area that could stump grandma. Students need to be able to cite their sources of the information they share. For instance, where they read a trivia fact about Jupiter. They will learn the difference between reliable and unreliable sources.
Students may want a notebook and pencil for taking notes. Wiggly students are welcome to use fidgets.
Progress is not assessed except for participation. Students can earn a certificate and badges.
40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Science can have some unexpected topics come up. Be aware that Mrs. Akins uses excellent classroom management skills to keep students on topic and from exploring any topic that is inappropriate.
The teacher will use kid-friendly Internet resources to confirm answers.
