45 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Welcome Friends, In this one time class, we will use the supporting characters from "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" to introduce emerging and new readers to the theme of friendship. This is a fast paced, interactive and fun class where students will learn or reinforce the literary terms theme and character analysis. They will also learn new vocabulary words (plot, theme, analysis etc.) by discussing their favorite Harry Potter character and why they became Harry's good friend. We will use a round-robin technique and share who we would want as a friend if we were Harry Potter and why? Teacher will create a short character analysis of the supporting characters and students will use context clues to support their choice of friends for Harry. We will analyze how the characters develop and become friends, using a summarization technique and key friendship words that we already know and additional words from the book. Students will discuss Harry Potter’s friendships and why they are important to the plot (story) and why having good friends is important to everyone. Students will brainstorm and share how they became a good friend to someone. Finally, we will create a friend (or family) house flag using words, drawings and pictures that best depicts our friends.
Learning Goals
Students will reinforce or increase their understanding of specific literary terms, novel vocabulary and the use of context clues to support their answers.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi Friends!
Welcome to my classes! I look forward to working with your child in an educational, multi-sensory, interactive and fun environment.
In addition to my educational experiences and training, as a mother of two daughters and a son, and a grandmother of a twelve year old grandson and eight year old granddaughter, I know how important the classroom experience is for every child. Using the best practices in learning and years of teaching experience I create classes so every child can be successful!
One of my favorite mantras is from George Evans, "Every child can learn. Just not in the same day or in the same way."(having three very unique children taught me that quickly). That's why my teaching style is not as important as your child's learning style. All of my classes use this philosophy to blend multi-sensory activities with a student centered learning experience unique and specific to students individual needs.
Learning is an adventure, that should be educational, fun and memorable. I will be the tour guide, pointing out interesting facts and information to guide and structure our journey but your child is the tourist who will visit new things, maybe revisit old places to be reminded of what they already knew about those places and things, have fun with other tourists they meet with similar interests, create new memories and souveniers based on the information they have seen and gathered, and discuss all the knowledge and skills they will find along the path.
