#ACADEMIC This one time lesson will teach how to determine the difference between rational and irrational numbers, including square roots and changing decimals to fractions, from the Number Sense Standard in 8th grade Mathematics.
Class experience
I will be teaching how to classify real numbers into the two groups, rational and irrational numbers. I will also teach how to change a decimal to a fraction and a fraction to a decimal.I always like to bridge an understanding to real world examples, especially with the mathematics vocabulary. There will be discussions as to what the words rational and irrational mean to them outside of math. Then I will help them make the connection to the math definitions. Students will be able to determine if a number is a rational or irrational number based on the mathematics definitions. The students will be able to change fractions to terminating or repeating decimals, and the students will be able to change decimals into fractions.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
