Young learners will get a closer look as to how penguins and polar bears keep warm and stay dry in the year-round cold weather conditions they live in! This class is a 4-day camp that will be one part fun lecture-discussion and will also involve hands-on activities to review and illustrate the key concepts. Students will understand how arctic animals have adapted to survive in continual cold weather conditions.
Materials needed are as follows: Day 2: - 1 large bowl - ice cubes - water - 2 gallon sized ziploc bags - shortening (i.e. Crisco) Day 4: - crayons - penguin coloring printout [Alternative: students can draw a picture of a penguin on a white piece of computer paper] - spray bottle with water (or just water to sprinkle) - OPTIONAL: blue food coloring **Encourage but optional: cup of hot cocoa and a blanket or an arctic friend or winter themed stuffed animal/toy!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
