Class Experience

Beginner Level
Welcome to Architecture and Design level 1! In this first course our goal to get you to think like an architectural designer. We aim to see the 3 dimensional world in a 2d space. You will be challenged with manipulating 3d objects on a 2d plane. To do so, we will be drafting 3d cubes, arranging them relative to one another along x, y and z coordinates before performing boolean addition and subtraction operations on each. The final drawing will be a unique axonometric designed by you.

Along the way, we will review the design thinking principles of creativity, critical analysis, reflection and iterations.

This course is setup to be a personalized hybrid learning environment. Students will be provided with specific directions, feedback and expectations. During each session, progress will be reviewed and assessed, setting up students to work independently until the following session. Our intro class will be a little longer to provide all the necessary background and foundations. Subsequent classes can range between 15-35 mins, depending on the student's needs. Most students complete the project throughout roughly 8 sessions, however, there is plenty of opportunities to customize as desired.

As part of the course, students will be introduced to CAD. Students will need to download and install Rhino3d; professional software used and taught by top architecture universities including MIT, Harvard and UC Berkeley. The software includes a free 30-day trial, however, all currently enrolled students will have access to an educational license.
