***Due to protecting learner privacy, class recordings will not be available*** ***All learners are required to have their camera on at the start of class*** Architecture 101 Camp is perfect for children who are interested in learning more about architecture and what an architect does. The four-day course is meant to be an informal creative exercise for your child where we will collectively design and draw a building over the course of four days. In an effort to create an equitable and inclusive learning experience for all learners, we will not focus on advanced technical drawing applications (using a scale, etc). Each session will begin with an introduction and check-in. Following the introduction, we will flow through the agenda for that day, and lastly, we will share-out and discuss. This course is designed to give your child the tools they need to begin their creative journey into architectural thinking and design. Class Structure: DAY ONE: 0-10 minutes: Introduction and check-in 10-20 minutes: Presentation 20-35 minutes: Project Set-up: Client story 35-40 minutes: Share-out and discussion DAY TWO: 0-5 minutes: Introduction and check-in 5-10 minutes: Presentation 10-35 minutes: Space plan diagrams 35-40 minutes: Share-out and discussion DAY THREE: 0-5 minutes: Introduction and check-in 5-10 minutes: Presentation 10-35 minutes: Floor plans 35-40 minutes: Share-out and discussion DAY FOUR: 0-5 minutes: Introduction and check-in 5-35 minutes: Finalize floor plans 35-40 minutes: Final share-out and discussion Outcomes: 1. New knowledge about architecture 2. New knowledge about what an architect does 3. Space plan diagrams 4. Floor plans ***Presentation contains moving text/images***

Supply List
Students should come to class with any form of drawing utensils and drawing surfaces! (i.e. pens, pencils, paint, markers, charcoal, paper, rulers) **I recommend more than one sheet of paper** Can my child attend class without their video/audio enabled? For safety, Outschool requires that learners meet with each teacher over video chat at least once. This can be a quick check-in at the beginning of class to allow the teacher to confirm your learner’s identity. We encourage learners to enable their audio/video during the rest of class to create a more social experience for all learners, but it’s not required. External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
Students will be given a hand-out sheet that includes architectural basics.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Architecture from Iowa State University
Hello! My name is Bethanie Jones and I am an architectural designer, educator, and artist residing in Seattle, Washington. I hold a BA in Architecture from Iowa State University and a specialization in UX/UI design from the California Institute of the Arts.
As a designer and artist, I look to allow the rigidity of one discipline to balance the conceptual fluidity of the other. This exchange maintains my hyper sensitivity to space and how users experience space. The tensions in space psychology, how beauty is perceived, the unseeable, and finding sensation in the seemingly mundane are at the front of my practice.
Additionally, I love to spend my time investing back into education by teaching kids on Outschool. I am a firm believer in mentorship and inspiring independent thought through self-learning. My hope is to bring joy and excitement while providing clear structure, direction, and self-rule to make a lasting impact for learners.
Recently, I have been the recipient of numerous awards and grants in recognition of my continuing effort in the architecture and design community. My recognitions are a testament to the dedication and heart that I bring to the industry, art, and education.
