Capture your imagination with near-inescapable dooms that threaten infinite worlds. Be a hero in a heart-racing story to remember. The Doom is a cataclysmic event threatening to devastate the world of the heroes or their people. In ARC, the heroes’ goal is preventing this apocalypse. ARC is a rules-light, tension-heavy fantasy tabletop role-playing game where anyone can create urgent stories ticking down to a seemingly inescapable apocalypse. Students can create characters in any way they want - they can be themselves, completely different, or a mix of both. Play as female, male, non-binary; straight, gay, lesbian, asexual, bisexual, or anything in between. ARC: Doom places students into a world that's just been hit by an apocalyptic event and omens have started popping up. Omens are story fronts contributing to the advancing doom. While they may not directly cause the doom, they speed its arrival. How would you go about solving the problems that face the people of this world? What would you do to stop this apocalypse? This is an original TTRPG (tabletop role-play game) created by momatoes. Not DND / D&D. My teaching style is based on creating stories that get students and their characters involved with the world. The overall theme of the class will be structured so students know the basics of what we are doing, but most of it will be improv and how the world has changed. Each week, I will go over a quick summary of the past week, head into our adventure, and maybe end on a cliffhanger to begin again the week after. Students who have a basic knowledge of mythology and science may feel more comfortable, but it is not required, as I will narrate anything students need to know. A recording of the class will automatically post after each session, so learners can go back and rewatch classes or watch a class they missed. I also utilize captions in my class as much as possible, so that students can read what I am saying if they have a hard time hearing, miss something, or their computer sound is messing up. If there is anything I can do in terms of adjustment or accessibility to improve your students' experience in class (ex. no flashing lights, etc.), please do not hesitate to let me know!
Learning Goals
1. Escape to a world filled with memorable, heart-racing tales. Challenge awaits you. Can you overcome looming obliteration?
2. Build a story together. Support each other as heroes on a fantasy adventure creating narratives that alter the course of destiny
3. Have fun - even when you’ve never played a tabletop RPG before. This game will guide you on becoming heroes immersed in an adventure so that you worry about the Doom and not yourself.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
The world of ARC: Doom is based on an apocalyptic world. Dark themes such as death, destruction, and end-times will be prevalent. We may face discussions and discovery of sexuality, gender, and coming-of-age; students will also face battles, violence, poverty, and human suffering.
Homophobia, transphobia, and other forms of bigotry are not what our story focuses on, but they may arise as the story develops and students want to discuss them.
Supply List
Access to Google Drive (including Google Docs and Sheets) Optional: Two six-sided dice (2d6) or online dice roller (I have one you can use, too) Paper & Pencil/Pen (or digital writing method)

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in History from George Mason University
I am a historian, scientist, and member of the LGBTQIA+/queer community (asexual, panromantic; she/her/hers). I teach mythology, science, and pop culture classes here on Outschool.
I graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Forensic Science and a focus on mythology and research. But I have been a teacher of these subjects for over 8 years, working with students from toddlerhood to teenage and beyond. I have always encouraged students to learn based on their own learning styles, so my classes incorporate different varieties of learning, including interactive elements.
I am expanding more into RPG classes as I have enjoyed the ones I have done in the past through my other classes. I love creating worlds and characters for students to explore, and RPGs are a good way to do that, as well as incorporate mythology and science into them.
