Are you interested in learning Modern Standard Arabic? In this self paced class, you will have access to video lessons explaining and demonstrating how to read and write in Arabic. Every lesson will provide one or more videos teaching a set of the Arabic alphabet, introducing vocabulary and teaching conversational material. Week 1Lesson 1Introduction to the Arabic Language & AlphabetThis is a segment where you will learn some basic information about the language.Lesson 2Arabic Alphabet - Set 1In this lesson, you will learn the first set of the Arabic alphabet: a set of 5 letters.Lesson 3First Introductory conversationYou will have their first introductory conversation in Arabic.Lesson 4Arabic Alphabet - Set 2You will learn the another set of 5 Arabic letters.Week 2Lesson 5What is this?This is more of a vocabulary session where you will learn some basic phrases. Additionally, you will learn how to say "what is this?" in Arabic and how to answer it, while learning words, such us "chair," "table," "pen," and "book."Lesson 6Arabic Alphabet - Set 3You will learn how to write, pronounce, and connect set number 3: a set consisting of 6 letters.Week 3Lesson 7Arabic Alphabet - Set 4You will learn another set of four letters.Lesson 8Reading TutorialUsing our knowledge of all the letters we have learned so far, you will learn how vowels work in Arabic. Then, you will attempt to read your first words.Lesson 9First colorsLearn your first colors in Arabic, while learning how to use them with words we have already learned.Lesson 10Numbers 0-10You will learn how to count from 0 to 10.Week 4Lesson 11Arabic Alphabet - Set 5You will learn another set of four letters.Lesson 12Common Descriptive WordsYou will learn how to use words such as "happy," "sad," "busy," …etc. We will also see how to make such words change between feminine and masculine.Lesson 13Using What We LearnedWe will move to our final assignment using what we have learned in this course.
Students will be able to recognize, pronounce and write all of the letter of the Arabic alphabet correctly. They will know which form each letter takes, depending on its position in a word and will practice connecting letter in a variety of important vocabulary words. We will cover basic introductions, colors, and the numbers 0-10.
Homework Offered
Weekly assignments will include a combination of written and video assignments, as well as Quizlet sets of letters and vocabulary for further practice.2 - 4 hours per week outside of class
