Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 7
In this one-time class, students will learn about folk tales from the Appalachian Mountains. This will include stories from the northern and southern regions. Among the tales that will be covered are the Wampus Cat, the Bell Witch, and Bigfoot. We will look at the stories, contemporary accounts, and some of the related history. We will also discuss some of the superstitions from the area as well.

Class will be in a slideshow lecture format. There will be discussion questions posted throughout the class. Students are welcome to join in the discussion, or they may listen to the lecture without participating.
Learning Goals
By learning about some of the folklore from the region, students will be able to gain a better understanding of the people who live there.
