US Grade 9 - 12
In this course, I will give sessions teaching the content of the AP US History course for students taking the AP exam in May. I spent the last three summers grading essays for the AP World History: Modern Exam for the College Board and I am currently teaching AP US History. I feel that I can use this experience to help students in APUSH succeed. My hope for this course is that students that join will communicate in the class conversation board about what they might need extra help in, the unit you are currently working on in your school, anything that was not clear that you've learned before, or whatever else you may need. If students don't have any suggestions on topics needed to be covered in a particular meeting, I will have a lesson prepared that covers one section of the course that I think is especially necessary. Since this may be difficult with a larger class, I have capped the number of students in any particular meeting at six. My teaching style is very engaging, using a large amount of student interaction and student-produced examples. Students are often asked to give self-references to concepts in order to enhance memory retrieval with important concepts. Students will be able to interact with each other and with me throughout the class. Students joining this course should either already be part of an AP US History course or be actively self-studying in order to take the AP US History exam. I will make sure that content is presented as if it were the students' first time learning the information, so as to accommodate for students who may be learning the material at different times than others. In the event that students do not give suggestions of topics to cover in these meetings, here is a schedule of topics that I will prepare for the first four weeks of meetings: Week of September 6 - Course & Unit 1 Introduction Week of September 13 - Native American Societies Week of September 20 - European Exploration & Columbian Exchange Week of September 27 - Effects of Colonization For more information on the course, a description of the exam, and much more, the Course at a Glance and the Course and Exam Description (CED) are posted in the classroom so that all learners have access to this important information.

Some sensitive topics may be covered when discussing concepts in the AP US History course, but they will be handled in a way that is both age-appropriate and ideologically balanced. I have been teaching AP classes for 8 years and I have 9 years of teaching experience in world history and psychology, which has trained me to approach sensitive topics in an empathetic, highly understanding way. I have also graded AP History essays for the College Board for three years, which has given me an expertise on the grading process that I would love to share with your students.
