The format for the AP United States History exam is changed. In its new format students will be asked to answer one document-based question from Units 3-7. Based on this new format, this class will tackle intensive review of Units 3-7 with specific emphasis on contextualization, evidence reading, creating a topic sentence, and developing a thesis. We will review several DBQs and review strategies for obtaining the maximum amount of points. We will begin with an overview of the period including famous events, people and themes from the time period. We will then examine documents from the time and develop answers to the questions by responding to the prompt, creating a thesis and supporting the argument. We will spend considerable time in understanding the general themes in order to present outside evidence. We will also look at point of view, perspective and bias.
Learning Goals
Students will increase their understanding of the new test format and develop a successsful strategy for answering the question.
