Our 12-week AP Spanish Language & Culture course meets two times a week, focusing on AP exam preparation. The immersive curriculum builds key reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills for success in May.

2-4 hours per week. Homework will be provided and is highly encouraged to help students succeed in this AP course. While it’s up to the students to complete, consistent practice is key to performing well on the AP exam and building confidence in their skills.

Grades will be offered upon student request. Please kindly request this prior to your first class. Grades will only be provided upon completion of all work submitted. Formal assessments will be offered throughout the class to check students' knowledge.

AP Spanish Language and Culture Course Description
Our online AP Spanish Language and Culture course offers an advanced, immersive language experience designed to expand students' cognitive, analytical, and communicative skills. Conducted almost entirely in Spanish, this full-year course prepares students for the AP exam by focusing on the three modes of communication: interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational.
Students will explore the six themes required by the College Board:
Global Challenges
Science and Technology
Contemporary Life
Personal and Public Identities
Families and Communities
Beauty and Aesthetics
Each theme is covered in a way that allows students to practice speaking, reading, listening, and writing skills. The course teaches language structures in context, aiming to develop fluency and the ability to convey meaning effectively.
The course also utilizes the Internet for up-to-date materials, ensuring a relevant and dynamic learning experience.

Schedule: Our class will meet 2x per week for 50 minutes each session

CURRICULUM:
Class content will be presented to students through interactive Power-Point-Style presentations.
Nearpod will be used in most classes.
Kahoot may be used during class to review class content. 
We follow the Triangualo Aprobado Curriculum. The syllabus is currently approved by the College Board. 

DIGITAL APPS USED TO REVIEW:
Quizlet will be used to provide students with vocabulary practice through digital flashcards.
Kahoots may be assigned for additional practice outside of class.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
During Class: Bell Work (To Review Previous Weeks Topics or Introduce New Vocabulary), Topic Introduction (Direct Instruction) Student Led Practice, and Finish with an Exit Ticket to corroborate understanding. 

All classes will be highly energetic, full of fun activities, that could include the use of digital apps.

Writing utensils such as pencils, pens, highlighters

Lesson 1:
Exploring Contemporary Life & Careers
 Students will dive into the essential questions of "La Vida Contemporánea," focusing on professional education and career vocabulary. Through interactive activities such as acting out vocabulary and creating visual and written connections, students will explore how contemporary life influences education and career choices. By the end of class, students will confidently use new vocabulary and answer questions in both spoken and written formats.

Lesson 2:
Mastering the Subjunctive: A Grammar Review
 Students will revisit the present subjunctive tense, focusing on its conjugation. Through interactive PowerPoint presentations, NearPod activities, and guided practice, students will deepen their understanding of the subjunctive mood and its usage in complex sentence structures. By the end of the class, students will complete a mini quiz to assess their knowledge.

Lesson 3:
Subjunctive & Interpretative Communication: A Balanced Approach
 Students will expand their knowledge of the subjunctive, focusing on using emotions and dual-subject sentence structures. In addition, students will hone their interpretative communication skills by analyzing a letter, graph, and audio, answering comprehension questions that connect real-life contexts with classroom learning.

Lesson 4:
Analyzing Data & Audio: Subjunctive in Action
 Students will practice interpreting a graph and analyzing an audio clip on primary education in Central America. They will also revisit the subjunctive mood, focusing on impersonal expressions and deciding between indicative or subjunctive forms based on context.

High School Spanish III/IV. The AP Spanish course is a college level course. The intensity, quality, and amount of materials can be compared to a third-year college course.
