Often, students take AP Physics C while still learning the calculus tools needed for the course. Topics like center of mass or differential equations for simple harmonic motion might be introduced very early on in the course, before students have developed the mathematical maturity to handle them. This course aims to fill in those gaps. In this class, intended for students taking AP Physics C: Mechanics in 1 semester, we'll be honing students' physics problem-solving skills. The course will cover the standard AP Physics C content briefly, but is intended to complement a standard lecture based approach. Structurally, classes will be divided into two parts - the first twenty minutes spent on content delivery, and the remainder on problem solving approaches. In particular, we'll be looking more intensively at problems involving calculus applications. Any homework assigned will be entirely optional and self graded, though I will welcome any questions and be happy to provide feedback on homework upon request. The course will cover the following topics: Week 1: 1d and 2d kinematics Week 2: Mass and inertia, dynamics - equilibrium conditions, normal forces, frictional forces, air resistance Week 3: Circular dynamics Week 4: Work, energy, and power; system vs object model Week 5: Center of mass, momentum, impulse, and collisions Week 6: Moment of inertia, torque Week 7: Angular momentum and rotational energy Week 8: Gravitation, Kepler's laws, orbital mechanics Week 9: Simple harmonic motion Week 10: Consolidation Required knowledge: AP calculus AB or equivalent is recommended as a prerequisite. If your student does not have a background in AP calculus AB, the course may be doable with calculus as a co-requisite, but it would be helpful for me to know this in advance.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology
I started tutoring math and physics over 8 years ago, at my local community college. In the process, I was exposed to learners with a wide variety of backgrounds - from advanced high schoolers in the honors program, to returning adult learners refreshing their algebra skills. This helped me hone my ability to quickly identify individual students' learning styles and backgrounds, and tailor my approach accordingly.
While at MIT, I continued teaching as a TA for 8.02, MIT's required freshman electromagnetism course. I also spent a summer teaching math for computer science at Women's Technology Program. After graduating, I spent a year working in physics curriculum development before taking my tutoring business full-time.
My approach to teaching is Socratic - I aim to ask questions that guide students in problem-solving, rather than give formulaic answers. The ultimate goal is to help my students develop a deep intuition for physics/mathematics.
