US Grade 10 - 11
This 3-week class is designed to help students prepare for the AP Language and Composition exam. Day 1: Rhetorical Analysis Students will review the rhetorical situation and rhetorical choices by working through a practice prompt. Students will also practice writing a defensible thesis and outlining an essay. Students may write the essay outside of class and submit it for feedback (up to one week after the final class.) Day 2: Synthesis Students will review the expectations of a synthesis essay and will practice creating a "conversation of sources." During class, students will write a defensible thesis and will plan their main points for their essay. Students may write the essay outside of class and submit for feedback (up to one week after the final class.) Day 3: Argument Students will brainstorm specific evidence for a practice prompt. Students will practice writing a defensible thesis and addressing the counterargument effectively. Students may write the essay outside of class and submit for feedback (up to one week after the final class.) Please note that taking this course does not guarantee a specific score on the AP Lang exam. No previous experience is required for this class.
