Class Experience

In this three-week course, students will meet two times per week to review the topics traditionally covered in the first semester of an AP Chemistry curriculum. This course can also be a good fit for students enrolled in Regents Chemistry or Honors Chemistry which covers the topics listed below.

The following units will be reviewed:

Unit 1: Atomic Structure & Properties
Week 1 Day 1: Moles and Molar Mass
Week 1 Day 2: Periodic Trends & Atomic Structure and Electron Configuration

Unit 2: Molecular and Ionic Compound Structure and Properties
Week 2 Day 1: Types of Chemical Bonds & Lewis Diagrams

Unit 3: IMF's
        Week 2 Day 2: Intermolecular Forces & Solutions/ Mixtures

Unit 4: Chemical Reactions
Week 3 Day 1: Types of Chemical Reactions
Week 3 Day 2: Net Ionic Equations & Redox Reactions

Students will have access to note sheets at the beginning of each week to print in preparation for class. During class periods, I will use a document camera to show my note sheet so students can follow along at home. After each unit, I will post my answer keys to the classroom page.

During our class sessions, students are encouraged to ask questions as needed. I am always the last to leave my virtual classroom and hang back intentionally after class to answer any additional questions the students might have. Video recordings of our lessons are made available for enrolled students and are accessible after class on the classroom page.

This course is designed to cover topics traditionally covered in the first semester. Please review the topics carefully to ensure that they align with the topics your student is covering. Given the fast pace of this course, students should have some foundational knowledge of the topics listed above before enrolling.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I am a science teacher who resides in Rochester, NY with my husband, two children, and dog. I have twelve years of experience teaching high school level biology and chemistry and love teaching both topics! I completed my MS degree at Towson University where I discovered my passion for microbiology.

In addition to my classroom experience, I have had the opportunity to travel to over 20 countries across the world. Two of my favorite trips, Madagascar and Costa Rica, were real-world field trips with students to focus on local flora and fauna. In my spare time, I love to row crew and workout with my family.
