Class Experience

US Grade 10 - 12
Intermediate Level
Welcome to the 2nd Semester of AP Calculus AB! Calculus is ALL about levelling up! In this semester course, we will be focusing on Integration, Problem Analysis & Applications for both Derivatives and Integrals.

Along with learning the mathematics of Calculus the main goal is strengthen your Critical Thinking and Complex Problem-Solving abilities. Gain the ability to approach difficult problems logically and be able to move towards a final conclusion.

This is an ongoing class that will meet twice a week and will cover the 2nd semester curriculum. This class is conducted using a general format of lecture, examples, and student practice. We will also use other online resources as well, to explore the conceptual understanding of the material.

• Students need to have completed the first Semester of Calculus in order to be successful in this course.

• Students will receive printable class materials. These materials should be printed off and organized in a 3-ring binder for use in class.

• If you really want to become a Calculus expert it is IMPERATIVE that you complete the practice sets.

• Students should plan on interacting with the teacher and completing the class assignments. Classes will meet twice per week.

• I will be providing practice sets from a variety of sources. These will all be direct links and will not require sign in. These will not be required, but will be very helpful in practicing the skill sets.

• The last two weeks of the course will be focused exclusively on Test Prep for the AP Calculus AB test scheduled for 05/12/2025.

Class Date Adjustments:

There is a math conference on Tuesday Jan 28 that I will be attending.
If you are attending a Tue/Thu class, please be aware that the class on Tuesday, Jan 28 will be moved to Friday, Jan 31.

The Semester 2 course will start in January, 2025.
Learning Goals
Be able to analyze a function using the first and second derivative tests for: Sketching the graph of a curve based on the Derivatives, Determine Increasing/Decreasing Intervals, Concavity, and Critical Points.

Other Details

Pre-Requisites
Students MUST have taken Pre-Calculus (or equivalent) and have a strong foundation in Algebra and Trigonometry. This is a 2nd Semester course, so the student should also be familiar with Limits and Derivatives.
Supply List
Students should plan on printing off the PDF Notes, Homework, etc. that are provided.

Students will need paper (graph paper preferred), pencil and a graphing Calculator (TI-84 Plus preferred - approx $100). I will be using the TI-84 plus to show examples. Other calculators (such as Casio or TI N-spire) are fine, I will not be able to demonstrate how they work.
