In this 6 week class, students will learn what anxiety is, the science behind it, and strategies that can be helpful when managing everyday worries.

Class Experience

This six week class will discuss what anxiety is and how it is something that everyone experiences to some degree. This class is not therapeutic and does not offer treatment for anxiety. Instead, it offers education on the topic and coping tools that can be effective for every day worries and stress.

The class will be structured as follows:
-Check In & Meeting Everyone (5 min)
-Lesson (10 min)
- Activity or Strategy Practice (10 min)
- Wrap-Up ( 5 min)

The class uses multimodal instruction. Incorporating videos, hands on learning, activities, and discussion students can learn new strategies with ease.  Each week a different strategy will be discussed and practiced.

This class is open to students with learning differences. There are many ways to participate in class. Shy learners are welcome! Learners are able to join at any time.

6 Lessons
over 6 Weeks
Lesson 1:
Introduction to Anxiety
 Lesson: the lesson this week is an introduction to what anxiety is and how it is a common experience. Students will also learn about the science behind anxiety.

Strategy introduced: students will learn about deep breathing and muscle relaxation, and guided relaxation. 

Activity: students will practice guided relaxation and breathing techniques.

Lesson 2:
How Anxiety Impacts the Body and Grounding Techniques
 Lesson: the lesson this week introduces how anxiety can impact the body. Stress responses such as Fight, Flight, Freeze, Fawn are also introduced.

Strategy: students will learn different grounding techniques

Activity: students will practice a two different grounding techniques: color search grounding and somatic grounding.

Lesson 3:
How Anxiety Impacts Our Thoughts and Creative Strategies
 lesson: the lesson this week will introduce how thoughts can increase or decrease the amount of anxiety felt. We will discuss how specific future oriented thoughts are common in anxiety. Common ways of measuring anxiety are also introduced.

activity: students will use art techniques to cope with worry and anxiety.

Lesson 4:
Sensory Strategies for Anxiety
 lesson: the lesson this week will introduce how the 5 senses can impact anxiety

strategy: students will learn about grounding techniques involving the 5 senses

Activity: students will create a coping skills menu including sensory techniques

Learning Needs
The teacher has experience working with students that have diverse learning needs. Students with ADHD, autism, and learning disabilities are welcome.
Parental Guidance
This class is not therapeutic or a replacement for mental health treatment or counseling. Anxiety will be discussed in a general informational sense.
Supply List
A supply list will be provided prior to the first class.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Currently, I work as a School Psychologist serving students in grades K through 12.
