In this class, we will take a look at the life, education, and the adventures of Annie Oakley. This class will consist of a powerpoint presentation that will include a detailed look at her childhood, education, travels, and how she broke down barriers in a male-dominated sport.  We will examine her life in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, and how the public viewed her. We will explore how her story has been retold in movies and plays, and why certain parts of her story have been romanticized or changed. We will also explore why the world was fascinated by the concept of the "wild west" and how Annie's shows perpetuated and encouraged that image. The last 10-15 minutes of class will be an open discussion of what we have learned and answer any questions that the students may have.
