It is recommended that learners have taken Ann Ale Haitian Creole Level 1 & 2 prior to enrolling in this course. This is an interactive online course that encourages active student participation. We will learn all about the country of Haiti and it's geography as well as surrounding countries. We will take at interesting places to visit. Where in Haiti would you like to...
I started learning Haitian Creole in 2013 and I use the language daily in my full time volunteer teaching assignment here in Maryland where there is a large Haitian Creole speaking population. I teach people how to read and write in Haitian Creole. I translate written documents from Haitian Creole to English and I lived in Haiti for one month in 2018. I also currently interpret for Haitian Creole patients during their medical appointments.
Students will complete occasional homework assignments that will help to reinforce the new vocabulary learned during class. Homework assignments will take no more than 10-15 minutes to complete. They can involve fill in the blanks, crossword puzzles, writing a short story (a few sentences) or reading 1-2 pages of a short story.
A notebook and pencil are recommended for note taking but are not required.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
We will occasionally make use of websites like nearpod.com to play review games. You will NOT need to create an account for your learner. However, a link directing your learner to the website to participate in a game will be sent in the chat box during our Zoom meeting. Learners may need help entering the join game code. No personal identifying information will ever be required. I will also occasionally play or post in the classroom videos from Youtube.com to help supplement our lesson for the day. You will NOT need to create a YouTube account to view the videos. Please ensure that you review the site settings and monitor your child's use of the site to ensure that no inappropriate ads or video suggestions appear.
