Class Experience

In this one-time class, students will learning how to draw the character Totoro from the movie "My Neighbor Totoro" while chatting about their favorite movies with other anime lovers. Students will practice sketching and drawing skills using pencil, and students are welcome to ink with pen and color in their pieces by themselves after the class.

Each class will begin with introductions. Students are invited to share their personal art with the class. We still start the drawing process by looking at the original anime stills or anime-inspired artwork and talk about the drawing process, starting with light sketches using shapes and adding details and darker lines later. I will monitor student’s progress throughout the class. Students are invited to share their artwork at the end of class. All students are invited to share their final finished work on the classroom forum after class. Students who do not finish their initial drawing may also receive feedback by posting their drawing.

My goal is to create a fun, creative learning environment where students can comfortably learn and share their ideas with others who also love Studio Ghibli movies, characters, and artwork. Students will bring their imagination to life, draw their favorite characters and scenes, and have the opportunity to share their art with other anime fans. This class is great place for anime lovers to practice their drawing skills. Students are free to interact with one another during class and discuss their favorite anime.

No previous experience or knowledge is required; this is a class for BEGINNERS. I would recommend this class to any student remotely interested in anime culture. Students don't need to have seen the movie. I welcome everyone who loves drawing and anime to join this course!
