In this camp, we will learn different fundamentals of drawing anime. The goal is to help students create their unique voice and style through step-by-step practices and tutorials by breaking down body parts and other specific anime styles into teachable segments each day. Students will learn to accept getting messy and making mistakes as a way to experiment with finding their voice. Students will learn basic drawing principles for different anime styles while being challenged with some basic to intermediate techniques. Students will learn shading, perspective, and proportion sizes through the nine principles of drawing. Students will learn how simple shapes can help to create their style and independent voice. The class can be challenging, so each student will have the opportunity to practice mindfulness during the class's practice portion.
Hey! I am Tammy Whelan, and I help my students discover themselves through art! With over 20 years of teaching and tutoring experience and degrees in Psychology, I have created a personalized pedagogical approach to learning for all my students. Being certified and registered as a member of the National Tutoring Association and Yoga Alliance and training in Arts in Health and SEL*F, I am passionate about cultivating a growth mindset that encourages effort and perseverance. A Personalized Approach I run an interactive and collaborative classroom, making it a point to try to adapt to my student's learning style, schedule, and needs. My effort is to ensure that my students have feel good about their efforts at the end of each class. I motivate my students to dive deep and enjoy the very process of creating art rather than simply focusing on the end product. My approach to teaching involves believing in the uniqueness of each child and seeking to connect with and draw out that aspect of theirs into their art.
Some students will not finish, and this is totally fine. In this class, it is more about making the most of the moment. If they choose, they can work on it after class and post it to the classroom.

There is no grade or judgment in the class. I ask that each student respect each other's time and input. The main objective is the draw until the timer is complete with compassion and without judgment. I will give feedback and updates to students and parents periodically throughout the course.
5 hours 50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
