This is part one of a series of classes on creating an animated cartoon. In this class students will be introduced to the art of traditional hand drawn animation and start the process by coming up with a story idea and the characters. Students will be introduced to model sheets and create a model sheet for each character in the story. Through creation of the model sheet students will design their character from different angles and emotions. Character colors will also be part of the process. Professional model sheets will be explored and discussed as examples.

Supply List
Students can work digitally (on an iPad with a drawing app, for example) or traditionally on paper. If paper is being used students should have paper, pencil and the coloring material of choice.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I have been teaching art for over 23 years in public and private school settings. I have taught as young a 1 1/2 years old and as old as high school seniors. I currently run a makerspace for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. I teach everything from drawing and painting to cartooning to digital art to sculpture/ceramics and even domino art. In addition to being a teacher I am aa graphic artist and have written and illustrated several children's books.
