Class Experience

Students will be able to conduct independent research to collect evidence and assess the credibility of sources. Students will be able to write and speak in academic language using relevant vocabulary. 
Students will have a specific step on their research project to complete for each class. Any unfinished work and final project preparations should be completed outside of class. 
I will provide project handouts as needed. Students may need various materials depending on the type of project they choose to make.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be assessed by me and their peers using a rubric. Rubric is aligned with middle school Common Core English standards. 

Criteria for Success:
1. Research Project Criteria for Success: (Standards: W7, W8)
Project research/presentation completely answers all the research questions. 
Research handout is correctly and completely filled out. 
Project is based on facts and details from at least 3 credible sources. 
Includes accurate bibliography with at least 3 sources. 
All visuals and text in the project are cited correctly. 

2. Presentation Criteria for Success: SL4, SL5, SL6
Information is presented in a logical way. 
Speech is clear and audible. 
Eye contact is made with the audience most of the time. 
Refer to details in the project at appropriate times.
Speech is in academic language.

3. Language Criteria for Success: L2b, L3, L6
Writing is in academic language.
The project uses academic vocabulary words that match your topic.
All words are spelled correctly in writing.
All words are used correctly in writing and speech. 
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
