This lesson provides many positive learning outcomes, including the elements of art, positive communication, and critical thinking skills.  By creating the outlines of their hand, the learners are utilizing the art element of shape.  By learning about the elements of art, they are able to gain a deeper understanding of how they provide the building blocks of art, as well as our world around us.  Other learning outcomes include positive communication and critical thinking skills.  Group discussion during the presentation and activity promotes positive communication, as does sharing the artworks in the concluding discussion.  Additionally, the learners will utilize critical thinking skills by applying, analyzing and synthesizing their prior knowledge and experiences into the class discussion as well as into the artwork they create.  The concluding discussion promotes positive communication, while also supporting other academic subjects, making this lesson a well-rounded, creative learning experience.
