Animal Farm: An Interactive Minecraft Novel Study
In this 4-week class, students will read "Animal Farm," by George Orwell and help re-create Manor Farm in Minecraft. Students will be playing Minecraft Creative Mode in class.

Class Experience
**To participate in this class, students will need to have Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition (PC, Xbox, iPad, Switch and Android). This class is NOT compatible with Java.** Students will do more than just read "Animal Farm," they will immerse themselves in the story through gaming. Each week, students will read an assigned portion of the book, "Animal Farm," by George Orwell. In class, we will have a discussion of the reading before entering into Minecraft and completing various activities....
I have a bachelor's degree in writing and journalism. I worked as a journalist for over five years and won several awards during my career. I have taught in homeschool co-ops and taught my own children to read and write. Before changing my degree to writing, my study focus was on education. I have always been a lover of books and it brings me joy to share that passion with others. I play Minecraft with my family on a daily basis, so I will have the ability to play right along with the kids during class time.
Students will need to have a copy of "Animal Farm," by George Orwell and Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition (PC, Xbox, iPad, and Android). This class is NOT compatible with Java. They will also need to be able to interact in Zoom and play Minecraft at the same time.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Animal Farm does depict some violence (animals killing other animals). In Minecraft, while students will have the ability to kill various mobs, we will be playing in Creative Mode, so students will not be required or encouraged to kill mobs.
