Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - 1
Welcome Friends!

During this one time class students will complete an experiment appropriate for young learners along with the teacher! We will learn about the characteristics of mammals and learn about humans and marsupials being warm blooded. The class will begin with introductions and an ice breaker activity before starting a hands-on experiment. Preschoolers and early elementary students can benefit from this class.

We will learn about hypothesis and create one of our own. We'll discuss a control within the experiment then start the experiment before our ice starts to melt! We will learn how a joey stays warm inside their mother's pouch and why it's important for them to stay warm. While we wait for experiment results we will watch a 1.5 minute video about marsupials, learn about animal classification with funny stories and look at skeleton, joey and marsupial photos together. I can't wait to help your children remember what they learn by using multiple engaging methods during this lesson!

Experiment materials: 2 bags of ice cubes.
1-4 ice cubes per sealed bag works best! Equal amounts in each bag please.
We will pretend to have our own pouch! We enjoy playing pretend at Friendship Haven.

In our virtual classroom we learn life skills and age appropriate curriculum together while having fun. The material is student-led when possible. The teacher will engage each child by extending the lesson based on student interests, questions and discussion. After working for several years in preschools and daycares, she is very skilled at including lessons while having fun and thinking on her feet!

The Friendship Haven classroom is positive, welcoming and social. We enjoy using stories, props and role-play to enhance learning and comprehension. Your child is welcome to bring a marsupial toy for show and tell to enhance learning and engagement.

At Friendship Haven, our goal is for your child to gain the skills required for a lifetime of self-guided learning. As they show interest in different things around them, we will guide their curiosity with fun education. In the virtual classroom we use components of Montessori teaching by finding common household objects to nurture engagement and understanding during class. Our pace and lessons will vary depending on the needs of each student and the class as a whole. Parents, we'd love to work together to make sure your child is accommodated in my classroom if required. Please reach out and we can make a plan together! ESL students are always welcome to join the fun ☺️

During this class students are allowed to freely speak and engage with the teacher and other students. Mute is often optional.

We look forward to seeing you!

Every Friendship Haven teacher has worked in preschools and daycares for over 5 years. Some have even owned preschools! We enjoy science experiments because they give classmates a chance to socialize, hypothesize and discuss with peers while learning with a hands-on approach. It also brings us joy because it gives us the opportunity to connect with your child in a productive but fun learning environment.
