Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - 1
Animal Expedition Series: The Orca! Orcas, also known as Killer Whales, are one of the most beautiful, and mesmerizing ocean animals. In this class, after we get our swimmy silly wiggles out in a short movement song, we will explore the habits, diet, family dynamics, and other surprising information about this striking animal. Exactly why are they called "The Wolf of the Sea?"

Students are encouraged to interact throughout the class to tell what they know, answer, and ask questions.
Students will be presented with a colorful slide presentation, be able to ask & answer questions throughout, and finish up by listening to the book, "Can We Go to the Sea?" by Hiroyuki Arai.
Feel free to color or listen during story time.
If time allows, students may share their favorite stuffy or toy with the class.

I'm excited to connect with your student and help them engage with our other new friends.
I realize some learners are a little shy to speak and share in class. That is okay, too! Everyone learns a lot by listening and can still have a positive classroom experience. One of my teacher talents is bringing out even the shyest learner!
Connecting, encouraging, and having a joyous class gives that learner the confidence to speak and engage when they're ready.

As in all my classes, I like to keep each microphone on so we can practice talking when it is our turn. In the event that there are extra background sounds, I may have to mute learners from time to time. I am never, ever mad at them if this happens. ☺
Please show your student how to mute and unmute themselves so they can do it without the help of a grown-up.
Thank you for your help and understanding of this!

Summary of Class:
• Greetings (name, favorite fruit/animal/season, etc, any pets)
• Movement Song
• Sloth Colorful Slide Presentation (lots of opportunities to chat, ask, & answer questions)
• Story Time (feel free to listen or listen/color) "Super Sloth" by Robert Starling
• Show-n-Tell (if time allows)
• Good-bye Friends

Parents, be aware that we will move our bodies for a few minutes at the beginning of class. Make sure the student has an open area to do body movements where they won't fall or get hurt. Since this class is inclusive for all learners, any movements can be adapted to students sitting in a chair as well. Example movements: jumping jacks, stretching our arms and legs, running or walking in place, and dancing. Students are encouraged to participate in the movements, but it is not required to still have a fun, successful class.

Fun, positive, and encouraging! That’s what I hear from parents and students alike that take classes with me. I have an extensive background in musical theatre and acting so it’s only natural to bring that side of my personality to teaching. Learning should be exciting and fun. My classroom is colorful, engaging, and we will have so much fun together! My motto is: If I love teaching, my students love learning!

I love singing, acting, science, animals, volunteering in my community, crafting classroom props and creating up-cycled crafts. Just to name a few! I have been
married 25 years and we have 2 teen children and 3 dogs.

Education background:
I graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Education. I focused on Reading Education and Learning Disabilities in graduate school at UGA. I also have a 120 hour TESOL certificate for teaching ESL classes.

I currently teach phonics, beginning reading and comprehension, Play-Doh science classes, ESL, and several socialization and fun classes to students around the world. So many parents have told me their student works even harder practicing reading, phonics and speaking English in my ESL classes because of my motivation. Positive teaching methods that incorporate applicable skills propel my students to find their own inward motivation and exhibit great success. There’s no higher compliment for a teacher than knowing your student works to improve themselves because they love you and your class. Hard work, kindness, genuine love & a passion for teaching each student is the key to making a lasting impression on learners.

Now let’s get started! Engaging and exciting classes await your learner. See you in the classroom!
