In this two-week, four-session camp, students will learn about fractions using some of the fun, playful elements of 'Animal Crossings'. Each class will incorporate fraction skills with some fun, engaging exercises that help to reinforce the skills we're learning! Day One: We will use google slides and some memorable elements of 'Animal Crossings' to discuss what fractions represent, how to properly write a fraction, and identifying the 'numerator' and 'denominator' in a fraction. Day Two:...
Students will: -learn what fractions are and what they represent -how to identify the 'numerator' and 'denominator' -how to identify common denominators -how to add and subtract fractions with common denominators
I am offering this project-based learning opportunity because I believe that they're highly effective due to the way they incorporate multiple aspects of learning. It's always great for kids to take the skills they're learning and have the opportunity to apply them in a fun, exciting, real-world scenario. I have used several project-based learning activities in my own teaching and am always so pleased to see the students engaged with what they're learning!
Students may be asked to play an 'Animal Crossings' game in order to help us create some fun fractions and complete some cool fraction exercises on our last day of camp. This depends on each students' access to the game and will be better decided at the start of camp. STUDENTS DO NOT NEED ACCESS TO THE GAME IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE FULLY IN CAMP!
Pencil Handouts will be sent out prior to the start of class.
1 hour 20 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
