Class Experience

*Important Message: Students will need to have access to Nintendo online, New Horizons, and a stable internet connection to participate. Your student will also need access to Harv's Island in the game. This is usually unlocked within a couple of weeks of playing the game.

In this class students will...
-Be reminded of how to be kind to one another during today's class
-Visit Harv's Island to decorate rooms
-Get inspired by other students interior designing to help them with their island home
-Get items of their choosing to help them in their decorating (10 item limit per meeting)

Class Structure:
Class will begin with an introduction of all students and enforce the idea that this class is a safe space for all students to feel safe and to share thoughts and ideas with fellow classmates. This is important for the functionality of this class because we are striving for making connections with others. Following introductions, a short review of classroom rules will be presented.

Students will all get a chance to pick a theme and add it to a wheel. The teacher will spin the wheel generating a theme that all students will interpret in their own way and design a room on Harv's Island. Students will get to share their designed room with others in the class.
While this is occurring, students will be talking turns flying to my island to pick up requested in game items to help them with their interior designing. Desired items must be requested at least 24 hours prior to the start of class. Students can draft their list on the Outschool wall that allows communication between student and teacher.

My teaching Style...
-I will act more as a facilitator to spark conversation between students and students, and teacher and students.
- I like to relate to my students and in order to do that I take an interest in their interests. For example, I Google things I may not be familiar with so I can have conversations about things that actually interest students.
- I create a safe and respectful classroom environment so that all students feel comfortable sharing, and I provide various outlets for students to express themselves. For example, Some student may prefer to use Zoom chat to share thought and ideas and that is perfectly acceptable in my classroom.

Hello,

My name is Sarah De Los Santos and I am a third year kindergarten teacher. I am so grateful that I have finally achieved my goal in becoming an educator, and I am especially grateful that I get to teach kindergarten. I have a passion for teaching social-skills, communication, and problem-solving, and this is so essential in Kindergarten. I have also been teaching on Outschool for over 2 years. Outschool allowed me to teach social-skills, communication, and problem-solving in a time was impossible for people to come together in person. I was able to create fun and enjoyable classes that incorporated play and gaming to ease students into a social environment to help them learn or build on their social-skills, communication, and problem-solving skills.

As an educator my ultimate goal is to provide students with necessary skills to succeed in life, and while subjects like math are important, I strive to teach students skills like problem-solving and communication because these are the skills that are needed to live productive lives while in turn help with the core subjects. Therefore in my classes you will find that my focus is on character development that focus on improving life skills such as, problem solving, goal setting, communication, and positive mental attitude through more creative outlets such as bullet journaling, video games and other types of creative outlets. My goal is to reach students on a personal level to get them motivated and empower them to become the best version of themselves.
