Class Experience

In this one-time class, ACNH players will visit my island(s) in search of fall themed items such as tree’s bounty items and mushroom items, pumpkin decorations and cool weather clothing. As my islands always contain randomly dropped items, the fairy-core themed items will be wrapped for easy identification. In addition to the fall items, walls and flooring will be available as well as the regular items such as bells and materials to gold nuggets, wood, iron, tools and flowers. All items dropped on my island are available for the students to take and they will be able to travel between both of my islands and their own as many times as they can during the allotted class time.

Instructions: For this class, students will travel to my island using their Nintendo game console and the Animal Crossing New Horizons video game. I will send out the dod codes 10 minutes prior to class to allow students time to get settled on the island before class starts. When the codes are posted, students may choose the island they start on. Once all students have made their way onto an island, students may go between the islands and their own.

Please Note: To participate, students must have the Animal Crossing: New Horizons video game, know how to use a dodo code (or have an adult nearby to assist, if needed) as well as have a Nintendo online subscription.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
As a facilitator of several popular video game groups, I have enjoyed watching friendships blossom among the like-minded players. Some gamers are attracted to playing video games because they lack a real connection with most of their peers and the pandemic has been particularly isolating to these kids without connections. Other kids enjoy playing and talking about their favorite games to anyone with ears. Like my own son, kids who play video games often disconnect from the world around them. I have found that uniting kids with similar video game interests builds confidence and valuable social skills while making meaningful connections with the world around them.
