Class Experience

Calling all Animal Crossers! Join me in an Animal Crossing-themed math mystery game! Students will use their understanding of place value to solve math problems involving base-10 blocks to make their way out of this digital math mystery. This math game will review essential first grade place value skills in a fun, engaging way! This game will feature popular Animal Crossing characters like Tom Nook, Isabelle, Redd, and several villagers! Help us escape the infamous TARANTULA ISLAND and get safely back to our own island. Will you join us and help us escape?

Please note this game is designed for students that have some understanding of place value and base-10 blocks. This is an essential math skill included in common core so students should have exposure to this skill from school. This is NOT an introductory place value lesson.

This game reviews first grade math standards and is also great for second graders to brush up on their place value skills! Third graders who need more math support may benefit as well. If your child is more advanced in math, this class may not be for them.

The math problems in this escape room will be presented by the teacher using Google Slides so students will not need to print any materials. I do recommend that students have paper and a pencil in order to solve the math problems accurately.

First Grade Common Core State Standards (CCSS):
1.NBT.B.2: Understand that the two digits of a two-digit number represent amounts of tens and ones.
1.NBT.B.3: Compare two two-digit numbers based on meanings of the tens and ones digits, recording the results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, and <.

Learning Goals
