Each week we will learn about a different animal. We will look at the structures in that animals brains, and learn some cool facts about how that animal's brain works. Students will participate in discussion questions about each animal brain. Students will get an assignment each class for them to complete. Students will comment on each others' assignments and learn to give constructive feedback. As a final project students will each choose an animal that we have learned about in class. They will record a short video of themselves teaching the other students about the animal and upload it to the classroom. Week 1 Dog brains: Learn how your best friend thinks! We will learn how wild wolves became friendly and loyal dogs by living with humans, a process called domestication. Week 2 Parrot/ parakeet brains: Look at the structure of a bird brain, and explore what it is that makes parrots so smart. Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi I'm Jenn! I am a Children's book author and Early Childhood Educator from Canada, and have been teaching 3-14 year old learners since 2013. I got halfway through a program to become an elementary school teacher before switching to a psychology based degree in Child Youth and Family studies. My focus is on healthy child brain and body development.
My passion is in understanding the functions of the human brain! Children who understand how their brain works, and understand concepts like brain plasticity are more likely to be resilient and develop a growth mindset. I teach psychology classes and my goal is to teach children how to be resilient and how to build on their strengths while strengthening their weaknesses. My published book is about the brain as well!
I worked as a personal support worker while I was studying, and I emphasize inclusivity in my classes. If you have a learner who needs any adjustment to fit their needs send me a message. I will work with you to make their learning experience a success. I am happy to add subtitles to my own video content, change class sizes to meet individualized needs, and accommodate students based on their developmental level.
I am passionate about travel and I plan on world schooling my own children when they get older! I have a number of travel related classes available. Keep an eye out for virtual world schooling classes in the future! When it is safe to travel again I will be taking my classroom on the road.
I can't wait to meet you in the classroom!
