This class is taught in English.

Students will see a map of the continent and country where the animal we are studying lives and discuss its habitat.

Students will learn interesting facts about each animal like what it eats, who its predators are, and what its family life is like.  We will also talk about little-known tidbits of information about each creature.

With teacher guidance and modeling, students will use their creativity to write poetry based on a variety of styles. The poetry types include haiku, acrostic, word bowl, diamanté, shape, “Who Am I”, cinquain, and more.

Students will use basic art supplies and simple techniques to draw a new animal every other week. Individual creativity is encouraged.

Students will have the opportunity to share their writing and art with each other at the end of class.

Judy was a public school classroom teacher for over thirty years and holds a master's degree in Integrating the Arts Into the Curriculum from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In addition, she owned a small business that focused on literacy and the arts and has been an Outschool teacher for three years. Homework Offered
Most learners will finish their work during the class period. Some students may choose to add details to their art or to neatly rewrite their animal poetry.
