Class Experience
Animal & Art Obsessed Summer Flex Camp- An Exploration of Drawing and Animals for Artists who cannot get enough. This is a flex class - Each week class activities will be sent out for the student to complete on their own time. - There is not set date and time that you need to attend - There are no live classes, however, there will be plenty of interactions between the students and each other and myself. - These lessons have been tested in live classes to ensure student success - Art classes make the perfect flex classes as students can pause or speed up based on their abilities, the lessons can be done when it fits into the day without worry of getting behind as it's a high interest subject kids will want to work on every week. *Classes do not need to be taken in order, 101 or 102, etc. just indicate unique projects within the series of classes. Don’t get bored- Get Creative! 5 Projects per week! My students are always telling me they wish we could have art class everyday of the week, with this class they can follow along on their own schedule and be fully immersed in animal art each week. Each week 4 new video lessons and one challenge/scavenger hunt/collaborative project will be posted. Students can complete these all on one day or have a project each day for 5 days of the week. These lessons are from my live ongoing classes, tested to be sure all levels of artists can be successful. Because the lessons are pulled from the 3 classes below some weeks students will learn about a famous artist or even learn animal facts as they complete their drawing, helping keep them engaged throughout. - Art Is Fun - An Exploration of Drawing & Art Journaling - Animal Art Exploration - Learn to Draw and About Animals - Mimic the Masters - An Exploration of Artists & Their Methods Week 1 Lessons: Whimsical Bird Patterning, Sloths, Cubism Rooster, Polar Bear Week 2 Lessons: Penguin Patterning, Whale, Love Birds, Tropical Flamingo Week 3 Lessons: Hummingbird, Whale Silhouette, Pointillism Turtle, Giraffes Week 4 Lessons: Ladybug Orbs, Grumpy Cat, Hammer Head Shark, Dot Fish The goal of this class is to introduce students to a few different methods of art, drawing, art journaling, and meditative patterning. This will help them home in on the art that really speaks to them and allow them to pursue something they are passionate about. We will also have fun and engaging challenges each week surrounding one or more of the lessons. For example, when we study O’Keefe students will go on a virtual museum tour and explore her art and then share a video response to their favorite piece. Or when we are drawing a perspective photo of snowman, students will be asked to share a written or video response sharing the story behind these 4 snow people creating a story to go along with their drawing. Some weeks multiple options will be available. Students should pick at least one challenge a week to complete. Flex classes are the perfect way to help students begin to take responsibility for their learning and their schedule. With 3 lessons and at least one challenge a week, students are encouraged to set up a weekly plan giving themselves 45 minutes each day for 4 days a week to be creative and work through the material. That could be at different times every day or at the same time each of the days. Classroom posts and lessons will remain in the same format each week allowing students to be self-sufficient and explore the lessons on their own freeing you the parent up for other tasks. I welcome all levels and provide a safe space for students to express themselves and create lifelong friendships all while they are creating art. It is my hope that students will relate to each other through their art and realize that even though we are each unique, being different is ok, in fact being different is awesome! Please Note: I recommend using the biggest screen you have possible as I teach using a combination of slides and live directed drawing so kids can see both the end goal and the process of getting there. Supplies: - Any type of quality art paper or sketchbook, cardstock in 3 ring binder/sheet protectors (the thicker the paper the better, look for one labeled multi-media) - Watercolor paints, paint brushes, and water some projects (though any medium can’t be used) - Pencil and Eraser - Ruler - Markers, Gel Pens, crayons and or colored pencils - Water Resistant Black Fine Point Illustration Pens (.3-.8 nib size) or Extra Fine/Fine Tipped Sharpie - Some weeks may require printing out a template so access to a printer is helpful though students can work from the slides

Teacher expertise and credentials
Art and Creativity are what get me through the day. The joy that creating provides is something that should be shared and explored by all! I have been teaching this particular class for the last 5 years in person and am excited to bring it to the Outschool platform.
I have been teaching in one aspect or another all my life, from helping in Sunday School classrooms as a teen to teaching my own classrooms at 18. I was a lead teacher for a Preschool prior to having my own family. Once I had children, I was organizing local families into craft clubs and field trips. It was only natural that we chose to homeschool. When I struggled to find a curriculum that would work well with my very hands on son and my visual daughter, I set out to create my own. This curriculum is still on the market 18 years later and being used in homeschools and classrooms across the world.
I believe all learning styles can be taught in the same space in most cases and you will find that 99% of my classes are project based for the reason. Putting the learning into the hands of the students helps retention and instills a love of learning. I teach for enjoyment and want my students to also enjoying the learning process, you will not find me teaching to a test or requesting memorization of facts. I will find fun and creative ways to get kids learning without them even realizing it most of them time. Some may call it arts and crafts, but I guarantee you your students will love it and they will learn and more importantly retain the information being taught.
With 20 years of experience teaching my own children at home I am well versed in a multitude of subjects and ages but my passions lie with the Preschool – Elementary age groups and in the arts and sciences and now i share that passion and creativity with anyone willing to listen.
I’ve been focused on teaching within the arts and life skills categories within my local homeschool community and am super excited to bring these classes to Outschool. I have seen so many students show growth and development in the 5-7 years they have been taking my class and can’t wait to share that with your students as well.
