Students will be assessed throughout class and at the end of class through questions and sharing of drawings.Class Experience
In this one-time drawing course, students will learn how to sketch a realistic, full body portrait of a hairless guinea pig (skinny pig). What will students learn? 1. Students will learn techniques for sketching a proportionate contour drawing (outline) of a hairless guinea pig. 2. Students will learn techniques for smooth blending, pencil application, gradient blending, and adding contrast. 3. Students will learn techniques for sketching and shading smooth skin/wrinkles. 4. Students will learn a few facts about hairless guinea pigs. I will demonstrate each step for students and have students complete that step along with me. My classroom is a calm, fun, and creative environment where discussion between teacher and students is encouraged. I ask students questions throughout the lesson to check for student understanding. Students may also interact with each other if they want to share what they have learned during class. Students who enroll in this class should have basic drawing skills, like drawing and manipulating shapes with a pencil. Students who enroll in this class should have some drawing experience. If you do not see a scheduled time that works for you, please message me. I am happy to try and accommodate your schedule with mine.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Weber State University
Welcome to my teacher page! My name is Torri McCarrey, and I am very passionate about teaching visual arts and core curriculum. My core curriculum courses often use an art integration approach to learning (e.g., drawing your own monster using adjectives). I also teach realistic animal drawing, landscape painting, holiday themed art, and more! I am a certified teacher with two Bachelor of Science Degrees in teaching, Elementary Education (kindergarten through sixth grade) and Early Childhood Education (pre-kindergarten through third grade). I have also drawn realistic and quirky animal portraits for nearly ten years. My values and philosophy of teaching include providing students with a calm and creative learning environment that provides the opportunity for hands-on learning experiences through art integration. I am also an avid animal lover, gardener, and aspiring illustrator and author, (I am currently working towards publishing my first children’s picture book). If you would like to email me, I try to respond within twenty-four hours, Monday through Friday. Thank you for your time and I look forward to working with you!
